Restoring a travertine patio

Travertine pavers are beautiful thick stones which are used for paving outdoor areas like pathways, hallways and pool areas. Travertine pavers are widely used around the globe in a variety of projects. With their elegant designs, travertine pavers in walkways and driveways beautify the appearance of your home. In addition, travertine pavers are also perfect for areas where aesthetics are the main priority. For the past decade travertine pavers in patios have become an integral part of landscaping and a practical choice for homeowners looking for a renovation. Moreover, travertine has become a top priority of designers because of its long life and durability.

Travertine pavers are susceptible to damage, no matter how durable or tough they are, either by staining, fading of colors or even weather corrosion. In walkways and areas of high foot activity they are more prone to damage. Restoring your outdoor travertine patio or walkway is best left to the professionals. Our process simplified:

Repairs

Start out by fixing any low spots, edging failures, and tamping.  The picture to the left is of a travertine patio prior to restoring.

Cleaning

We then perform a heated power wash to clean all organic material/stains off of the paver surface. This process also removes old sand from the joints, which is important. NOTE: The heated power-washer not only reduces or eliminates the need for chemicals, it also gets deeper into the joints and cleans that out. This is important because the more polymeric sand you get back into the joint the longer it will last.

Edge & Sand

Installing new sand and edge restraint is next. Sweeping newpoly sand is followed by a wetting process that will allow for hardening of the sand. Any old edge restraint that needs replacing will get spikes 1' on center, which is the standard.

Seal & Finish

THis is the time to seal the travertine, if that is what is desired.
