We all want a little privacy in our home, and our backyard is no exception. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to add privacy to your backyard. Over the years we have recommended many different ways to better you privacy, and here are a few ideas we can share with you!

Add a fence

Let's be clear; fencing is never the first choice, but fencing can be an effective solution. Adding a fence to your backyard is one of the quickest and easiest ways to increase the amount of privacy. Fencing is a basic and immediate way to improve your privacy, but there are better ways if that is not your thing.

Privacy through plantings

• Straight Line Plantings – planting a row of arborvitae, leyland cypress, or blue spruce will create a quick and natural barrier. This is particularly good if the space is tight and you do not have room to stagger the plantings. This method is quick and to the point and will help you achieve better privacy for your outdoor living space.
• Staggered Mixed Border – If you have some room to work with, this approach can be the most natural way to achieve privacy through plantings. Always group your plantings in odd numbers, mix in evergreen and deciduous, large and small. With regard to overall size, make sure that you plant in the appropriate layers (large in the back, small in front).
